Stewards of Twin Lakes Urge the TLPOA’s  Water Quality Committee to Prioritize Lake Health Over Power Struggles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Stewards of Twin Lakes Urge TLPOA Water Quality Committee to Prioritize Lake Health

Twin Lakes, PA—The Stewards of Twin Lakes, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to protecting the Twin Lakes watershed, express deep concern over the TLPOA Water Quality Committee’s decision to reject standardized aquatic invasive species (AIS) prevention signage. These science-backed signs, offered at no cost through partnerships with the Great Lakes Commission (GLC) and Pennsylvania Sea Grant, are endorsed by leading environmental organizations across North America.

The GLC, a trusted authority on water quality, collaborates with agencies across the U.S. and Canada to implement best practices. The proposed AIS signage, part of the AIS Landing Blitz program, is supported by Pennsylvania’s Department of Conservation and Natural Resources and other respected agencies like the PA Lakes Management Society. These signs aim to educate the public about preventing the spread of invasive species, such as Curly Leaf Pondweed, which has recently threatened Twin Lakes.

Most of the Twin Lakes HOA’s like Twin Lakes Woods, East Cove Woods, Brandtwood and Sagamore Estates have opted to put these Best Management Practices signs at their launch area’s. However, despite the proven effectiveness of the signs, the TLPOA water committee dismissed them for Twin Coves and Twin Lakes Park as “too wordy,” opting instead to retain outdated signage from 2019. This rejection undermines a vital opportunity to enhance Twin Lakes residence awareness and protect the lakes.

The Stewards of Twin Lakes urge the TLPOA to reconsider this decision and prioritize collaboration over some perceived conflict. Protecting Twin Lakes requires collective action and the adoption of proven tools to preserve its ecological health. All Twin Lakes residents and stakeholders are encouraged to advocate that everyone and every lake group make decisions that safeguard the future of Twin Lakes and our lake watershed.
